Once upon a time
As the story goes
An unpleasant occurrence shattered
The depths of me
Putting me into a situation
So helpless
That I could hardly breathe
The pain was unbearable
And I was what you could say
An emotional mess
Angry, disappointed, scared
All at the same time
Tears began to roll
And for days they won't stop
I was told
"Time will heal you"
And then it began -
The process of healing
It started with grief
And denial "Why did this happen to me?"
I would overthink
Wondering what worse could've happened.
In the morning,
I would be like- what happened was for the good
In the evening, I would shed tears again
It was a spectrum
As if I was riding the crest of a wave
In the morning
Only to reach the trough at dusk
Until the cycle shifted
From a day to a couple
And then to a week
At times, I would pretend to be happy -
Change the subject and it's all gone
But a small trigger would make me realise
"The wound is still there"
Pain - It demands to be felt
It cannot be escaped
Or evaded
Neither can anyone else feel it for you
Oh!
The process of healing
Days passed and then months
And there continued
The gush of feelings
And emotions
Anger, frustration, denial, and self-doubt
Until I learnt to allow them to flow.
Healing is a process.
A spectrum you go through
To adapt to the
New normal
Where you are at peace with what happened
And ready to embrace the new you.
Healing is a spectrum.
