Faustian Bargain

By Syamal Roy

It was a dream among dreams,
Wandering through a moonlit Eden,
Where sparkling lakes met rolling meadows,
Rich with flowers, vibrant in foliage.

All was alive with truth and hope,
A confluence of gaiety and glee—
A destination more peaceful than imagined,
Cradled in a nimble, creative energy.

But the artful dream was fleeting,
Leaving behind its thrilling joy.
I surrendered to life’s degrading current,
And returned to the tedium of unknowing.

Resonating between cradle and grave,
Two truths stood side by side—
Profound themes of human existence,
Each echoing with renewed meaning.

I searched to fulfill twin obsessions—
A longing for knowledge, a lust for life.
Now the curtain slowly draws down,
And I’ve made my Faustian trade
To chase the dream, no matter the price.
