Empty Pride – Delhi Poetry Slam

Empty Pride

By Teesha Verma

You pretend to Love this country
Yet don't care about the roads
You pretend to be patriotic
Yet ignore the drainage overflowed.

You wave the flag with fervent might
Wickedness everywhere, why do you fright?
You worship the river with utmost pride
Your choked mother, ohh what a sight!

You boast of culture, and its land
Yet injustice, you can't stand?
You praise your soil, its richness too
Yet filth the lanes, it's common for you.

You build the walls, so tall and bright
Yet divide the people, day and night
You wear the clothes of pious might
Yet your hearts, only shallow light.

You speak of love and words so sweet
Yet actions cold, everyone you cheat
You chant about love and kind heart
Yet hold grudges like a fine art.

You praise your heroes, so bold and brave
Yet become coward and dominant's slave
You critize the powerful and their affluent hive
Yet worship the greedy and the beast alive.
