Defiled

By Diksha Tandon

Closed eyes,
Brilliant smiles,
Look away...

Tentative glances,
Accidental brushes,
Look away...

One look might give away his heart, he secretly hopes...
One look might confirm her indifference, he openly fears,

Fear wins this battle, alas,
Cruel words and disrespect leaves her aghast,

Pretense hurts his cheeks like a glass shard,
Congratulating him on his well-timed disregard...

She won't come back now, he knows,
She won't easily forgive those low blows ...

Losing her would forever be his regret,

Ego though, would compel him to forget...
Her Brilliant smiles,
and what he, so callously defiled...
