Confession

By Lekha Saji

Blue planet with rippling waters,
Birds chirp, and the breeze softly murmurs.
Life — wild and tamed — dwells here,
A haven carved for gentle souls.

They scribbled,
“Mother Earth — the epitome
Of endurance and grace.”

They squeezed and crushed me
To test my tolerance.
But I am no benumbed soul
My nerves still palpitate.

Heavy lies the burden
Of personification.
I feel suffocated
By myths that confine.

Yes, I am a mother
With a fertile womb
Where life endlessly blooms.

And so, I strike back at times,
Rising from the vague identity
Of tender archetypes.

For I want to see the sky
Glance at me, furtively,
To listen —
To my music, my laughter, my whisper

And at last,
To cover me gently
With his blue blanket of love.
