Brownie- The Dog I didn’t want

By Sirjan Gaba

Unfortunately, the rope failed for its price
The investigation revealed- its nine to five

Order order, the court passed its sentence,
punished me with Brownie, her nose black and wet.

Pretentious and poseur, she thought I’d let her stay
Feeble as I was, its the toll I was made to pay

I was told to adjust; ‘she’s here to help’
For a blink I thought maybe they’re correct
But rumours swirled she only lured men for money
Her intention was clear, treatos in her tummy

Agitated by her ways;
I pattered my shoes and
I kept my car horn on blaring
The pendulum on her butt kept her from sleeping&snoring

But enraptured by the noise
She consoled me with her paws
Greeted me like its Christmas
I felt I’m Santa Claus

My heart, walled in 19 blocks

Day and night I used to bawl

But her eyes could melt Tungsten, Diamond

Enough to tear those fences wider

It was time; I donned my trousers,

Put her on that failed rope.

She pulled me to the farthest park

And filled my heart with lights of hope.
