Adieu

By Subhadeep Basu

Adieu! Oh Bard
Oh, Sweet song of spring !
The sojourn has to end, I know
Go where your true admirer waits
Where there is no grief and gloom
I hear, the elixir of life pours down endlessly
From the brink of that orchard
Compassion alone triumphs
In the embrace of Immortality
The veil of night doesn’t fall,
The damsel of dawn sings on and on

Make haste! the chariot of light won’t hold on for long
But, as you go , give me a word
That you shall be oblivious of all the wrongs
Every archaic word that I uttered,
Inarticulate terms of endearment

Pardon the dearth of love in my heart

Flowers that withered in my hand
Before finding their way to your feet,
Beshrew me, even today

Behold the horizon, before you step away,
Its crimson hue shall remind you of a bleeding heart
One that hasn’t been stabbed by a dagger,
The sword of remorse has avenged on the heart
That has atoned for eons

Our ways shall be as wide asunder as the poles,
I shan’t ever feel your gracious touch again
Memories will bloom as Daffodils:
To mellow the braes of my wounded heart
The damsel of dawn sings not of ‘gone’,
Will she sing of you?
As the Chuker ogles the Moon,
I resort to the all-oblivious night
to dissolve my ephemeral joys
In her endless ecstatic embrace
