A Story To Enthral

By Sharon Mary Kaushal

My soul longs to tell a story to enthral,
one to inspire, or one to call.
Many of us also long to tell various stories,
but yet are petrified or insecure
seeing others making up marvellous tales of glories.
Whenever I walk up to the mic to tell a word or two,
I fear people’s judgement and shiver from anxiety as if I had a flu.
Many of us nurture a perfectionist inside,
that ruins our spark, even though we tried.
I sometimes end up doubting my own ability,
saying “All I am doing is pure futility”.
“How to overcome these problems?” one may think,
is saving up stress, a common kink?
Let me tell you the wonders of our mind,
you won’t believe it to be a talented mastermind!
By always blabbering “I’m so nervous”,
you’re just pushing your self-confidence down with such disservice!
Always focus on your message,
not on yourself;
Remember, you’re speaking about your opinions,
and not for just an award to be kept on the shelf.
Turn your mistakes into learning opportunities,
using it as a tool from your stash of immunities.
Progress always matters over perfection,
because improvement seems better than a fixation.
So, if you feel a tad bit shy or even embarrassed to tell your stories,
or even see others feeling the same,
just remind yourself and others of these things I’ve said,
who by practising can definitely achieve their aim.
Life is too short to fret over almost everything,
so just gather up that courage in you, and share your imagination
even if it’s just anything.
Looking back, you won’t regret this decision,
you would be just patting yourself on the shoulder,
being proud for overcoming all the derision.
So, let us bring in the courage to tell a story to enthral,
one to inspire or one to call.
