A Pre-Armageddon Scenario – Delhi Poetry Slam

A Pre-Armageddon Scenario

By Saugata Bhowmik

As far as eyes can see
Lay chilly and still this earthly pedigree
While from afar the locusts swarm
None to decipher their circuitous form
While inside the pupae lay frozen still
A manifold potential of beauty and skill

Hawks with impregnated mushrooms skim by
Their blazing trail dare we deny
While down below the farmer tills
His sweat and blood on terraced hills
Children play their nubile games
Never knowing all this would be up in flames

Then from the skies a fatal switch
A pin-point demography without a glitch
And instantly transported the poison through genes
Devastated and maimed beyond Gothic scenes

Men and women do swim the tragic smog
All semi-conscious and juxtaposed in the nuclear fog
What started as just another passing day
Armageddon is here to stay.
