A Mother's Wish

By Priya Sajith

Dear Son,

Years ago I held you tight
My whole world filled up with light
I saw the pride in your dad's eyes
Oh son! how quickly time flies

I kept you safe under my wings
Sheltered from woes life brings
But now it is time to let you fly
My heart bleeds, tears refuse to dry

All those times we made you cry
We never could sleep your dad and I
All we did was out of love for you
Remember this for it is true

Soon son, you will have your own life
Busy with your children and wife
We promise that our entire lives
We will never burden you with ties

But every night we need to hear
Your voice tell us not to fear
That you are safe no matter where
So that we can sleep without a care
