A Life in Shapes

By Shrehya Taneja

Circle, cylindrical, rectangle.
I think those, maybe what everyone tells me, are my favourite shapes.
Been told since years to fit in a box, or maybe a rectangle.

Maybe what everyone tells me about favourite shapes is true?
Do I have a favourite shape?
Been trying to fit the mind in a square cube.
The circle or cylindrical body to be ignored, advice galore.

Ignoring the circle or cylindrical body,
going round in circles.
Both my body and mind,
ignoring questions and frowns and wrinkles,
subject to well-meaning advice all along.

The questions, frowns and wrinkles,
all part of me.
Away from sound advice and fixed shapes,
I do prefer my shape.
The love handles, spilling all out in cylinders and circles and spirals.
