A Home For A Daughter

By Heigal Thomas

I want to build a home,
A home that I can clearly see,
A home full of love, joy and laughter,
but note, there may be no place for you, my daughter

I want to go home,
In a quiet by-lane it stands,
Within, my parents and siblings, in comfort retire,
but note, there may be no place for you, my daughter

I want to go home,
Just peep-in through the trellised window,
Ah! my strength and weakness, my fire and water,
but note, there shall be no place for you, my daughter

I want to go home,
My cushion in times of loss,
My trampoline for success or failure,
but note, there shall be no place for you, my daughter

I want to go home,
zipping through the present,
lulled by a luminescent future,
but note, there shall be no place for you, my daughter

No place for me, a daughter?
No more beguiled by a rear-view snapshot
No more falling for a mirage, no more false wonders
I will build a home, a daughter

Once more shall we care and share,
Once more shall we drive and dare,
Once more when all is said and done,
Once more shall our hearts beat as one

Then we all shall be home, us daughters
