A Good Time To Die

By Anitha N

Is this the moment
When I die.
Is this the moment
When I allow myself
To die.

If I haven’t loved
The way I should have,
The way I love
Dies with me.

What I settled for
In seeking the best,
My shameful compromise
Dies with me.

A past I can’t carry
To life ahead,
My memory
Dies with me.

My image
As I see,
My flawed body
Dies with me.

My needs
Never voiced,
That silence
Dies with me.

The places
I never visited,
My stagnation
Dies with me.

The words
That I didn’t write,
My story
Dies with me.

The apologies
I didn’t say,
The heaviness
Dies with me.

Wrongs done
As I looked away,
My guilt
Dies with me.

The earth remains
Untainted, untouched.
I am the blip that
Dies with me.

To live, I choose
Knowing well,
Any moment now
Is a good time to die."
