By Zoya Ali Khan
Once she lived and so she loved,
From the depths of her heart, truly.
Eons had been by but she'd finally found it,
Her's to name a sanctuary.
Knowing herself, a conundrum she found,
Thinking what, what would he think about me.
Threatened by her conscience, conscious she fell,
A deep dismay festering her soul entirely.
The next sun, settled in her the entirety,
Of her ever growing love for the one she felt.
The lingering and lasting daunt of her question,
Fading away as soon as she glanced at him.
His eyes, she thought,
They listen so different,
And the lines between them,
So perfect, as he smiles.
She thought everything about him,
And about everything she gushed.
Hoping and wishing, for him to be the one.
One moon, she found the courage,
The courage to call him her's.
So she thought of a thousand different ways,
She could ask him, to be her's.
Soon, a perfect way, she had found,
But the damned conscience wouldn't let her.
So fighting from it, for him and for herself,
She confessed to him, all her vulnerabilities.
She breathed in relief,
Finally she said it,
Finally it was out,
And finally he would be her's.
The silence, it had always been her comfort,
But hearing it from him, she felt nothing but dread
His eyes, losing their light, took up a strange look,
As if he's disgusted, not at her but at her words.
And so her breath became constricted and her palms sweat,
Her eyes all teary and in her throat, her voice dead.
The reality, although unfathomable it felt,
She knew she was foolish, and once again her conscience was correct.
After a couple of moons, she once again felt,
Knowing no way out of her turmoiled self.
She saw him again, and he didn't spare a glance,
So ashamed of herself, the disgust now, even she felt.
Later that night, she once again felt,
She sobbed and sulked and so now, numb was all she felt.
But for the last and the umpteenth time, she once again begged, whispering in her croaked voice,
"Dear God please, please let him be mine".
Each and every word is heart touching…..really loved it ♥️
