The Trees Told Me So

By Shreesh Kakkar

“The trees told me to take care of myself,

Like I take care of them

To water myself in order to grow,

To have my roots deep into the ground,

So, I can stand tall even in the stormy weather,

So, I can fight my demons and grow.

The trees told me to grow above a level,

So I can be of help,

To humans and the co-existing life form,

Told me to stand tall and strong,

So, I can protect.

The trees told me to give to the people,

No matter how many stones they throw at me,

For there will come a moment,

When the world would want to cut me down,

But someone who I once helped,

Would stand tall for me,

For I once stood tall for him.

And that day, I would be happy to give my life,

For before going, I planted a seed in someone else,

And I believe, that seed will grow,

With roots deep into the ground,

To continue doing what I did.”
