The Life-to-be

BY VASUDHA GULYAM

God held all His creations equally dear,
But He remembered one with extra cheer.
One day as God sat down to create yet another life,
the life-to-be, whispered in His ear.

"Dear God, please make me strong so I have no fear,
Let me be big such that, others, my presence revere.
and no one dares, over me to domineer.
No camouflages for me please.
On the contrary, give me a conspicuous headgear.
I could also use an appendage like a shovel or a spear.
I leave to your judgment, matters of my rear.
Also see if you can add a wing, so I can quickly disappear.
But don’t make me a bird, I don’t like them, they jeer and sneer.
Don’t let my presence be restricted to one hemisphere.
Let there be nothing about me that’s insincere."

God thought it was one of the most difficult tasks of His career,
How something big with ability to fly but not a bird to engineer?
Nevertheless He loved a challenge and decided to persevere.
Soon, a thought began to appear.
The thought then became an idea, crisp and clear.
God began by making a sphere,
He then worked on it till the end of day was near.
He had accommodated all the requests
and what came to be was a ‘Rhinoceros Beetle’.
One of the biggest insects in the biosphere.
