Tell Me To Wait For You And I Will

By Shehzeen Bano

He said "Tell me to wait for you and I will"
I thought what a fool's play would that'd be ;
To risk it all just to be vanished by some uncertainty,
To live for words like, should have, could have, would have
That'd be beautiful in fiction, perhaps poetry
That day in that cottage in that very parlour
I may have stalked out of the threshold,
Till date my eyes, have never dared any other face to behold
Sighed and thought, it's for everyone's best afterall,
Dear God, I forgot, "everyone" didn't consist "us" at all
The sourness of regret, infinite hope of love and sincerity of your eyes,
incessantly chased me, swathed me tight,
Fool of me to have ever thought, love is nothing, but fool's gold
Holding the tear stained letter, I recall those words, still
"Tell Me To Wait For You And I Will"
