There is a little girl, all smiley and bright
Nothing that she fears, her thoughts crystal clear
She talks to the stars, her they don’t seem afar
Her dreams are wishes, like Angel’s kisses
She walks with pride, chin up, a strong stride
This little girl looks up to life!
First day to school,
Little girl feels delight,
Books and playground her favourite sight
Classroom, timetable, homework take her on a flight,
Where there is unclear light and rules too tight
Spellings and sums, the teachers grind
Books now don’t seem to befriend
Little girl wonders, why this plight?
And says no need to fright
It's just a beginner's strife
This little girl looks up to life!
One day the teacher asks,
What would your future be like?
The question is a cut-loose kite.
Little girl's thoughts then fight,
Where are the answers right?
I don’t know, I wanna see the moon,
No, the ocean too looks so cool,
Maybe I will ride a flight,
And reach the mountain top, so bright!
What say teacher, am I right?
Only she got a disappointing sigh!
The little girl thought, never mind,
I will try, let's look up to life!
Then, a loved one left,
Little girl naively wept.
‘Be brave’ her father had said,
Little girl grinned, for the promise kept.
Years caught on, the girl fought on.
Through rains and ridges, she never despaired.
For there was an aim she had to attain,
Head held high, the walk of fame.
She moved the mountains,
Courage ablaze she conquered pain.
That moment, reflection through life’s mirror,
No sight of little girl, whatsoever.
Even so, this girl said, let's look up to life.
Acing the competitive prime,
The girl met a partner in crime.
Life took another turn,
Not for one the girl ever planned.
Moments seemed light,
When together felt right.
Adding on the bliss,
Life gave another sight.
An angel came singing,
Lovely memories to remind.
The girl kissed her light,
And never let her out of sight.
Work again knocked; world never stopped.
Realised the girl, lets go backpack.
There was no dearth of might,
The girl with her bundle of joy, smiling looked up to life.
Milestones she thrived,
And then came a time.
The baggage of love or a tender cry,
Bounded unintentional, yet she dared to fly.
Flying against the wind, made her mind tired,
Never gave up the girl, needed solace dire.
The girl looked around,
Entitlements all crowned,
But no view of stars or the time to see.
Reflected she deep, where little girl echoed,
Come back my dear, why do you fear?
For it’s the choice you make,
For yourself and not for others' sake.
How long can one smile and strive?
Every mile of walk, you looked up to life.
Its time, pause to hug yourself,
Look above, the stars still shine.
The dreams in your mind,
Makes you fly, ways unwind.
For in every trial, every strife,
You've forged your path with strength and might.
So spread your wings, embrace the skies,
With choices bold, the little girl flies.
In living her truth, now choices align,
The little girl again looks up to life.
