My Childhood Experience Of Pain

By Ricky Kmenlang Mawlong

Life has taught me many things...

Since childhood days, life seemed so bare,
Poverty struck, a heavy snare.
We weren't many in that town,
Struggling hard, feeling down.

As I journeyed through life's maze,
Each day I fought in a foggy haze.
Children of my age with joy would beam,
While I felt trapped in a very bad dream.

Giving up was in my veins,
Facing drought amidst the rains.
Seven siblings, close we stayed,
Empty hearts, our souls decayed.

Our sweet Mum, so busy, strived,
To keep us strong, healthy and alive.
Dad ran away, left us in plight,
Our world in chaos, we lost its light.

For years we begged, our hearts in woe,
Neighbors laughed, a cruel show.
Looking down was all they knew,
Our dreams were all we had to view.

Sickness struck us one by one,
Death's cold sting, our fears begun.
God alone, our sole embrace,
Though prayers seemed lost in empty space.

Faith kept us flying through the strife,
Weak yet fighting for our life.
Yes, our eldest won the fight,
A mystery to those in sight.

We climbed the hill, sought success,
Gave our all, nothing less.
Though poverty stood in our way,
We grew stronger, day by day.

Now we thank God, deeply blessed,
He never forgot, gave us rest.
Sheltered us from shame and pain,
Blessings poured, time and again.

Freed from past, life now so bright,
Taught to handle every fight.
Love and hope within my veins,
Helping others in their pains.

Oh life, how beautiful you are,
I’ll spread your name both near and far.
You taught me how to truly live,
Now it's my turn to love and give.
