Goodbyes

a girl
with no place to call
home
saying goodbye
to the life she’s built,
in the blink of an eye

for every school she’s been to,
every place she leaves behind,
all she remembers
are the bitter-sweet Goodbyes.

hearts full of sentiment.
tears.
cordial letters from
friends.
family.
people.

it’s not a goodbye-
it’s a ‘see you soon’.
the sound of silence
and shaky laughter,
truly a somber tune.

her whole life
she has been told
to
stay
strong
Keep your chin up, girl!

but for how long
can she stay strong
before she
breaks.
crumbles.
fades away.

after all,
she is leaving multiple
worlds,
terminating
years of meaningful bonds
but-
for what?

her friends always question
I wonder how it feels

a question with no answer
set
in
stone

but what is unknown is
the poignant reality-
every 3 years,

new city
new people
new beginnings

and repeat.

  • Succinct and well written. The sentiment is absolutely true for all nomads. However bittersweet the goodbyes may be, it’s a privilege to be able to see the world. Also, rolling stones gather no moss! 😁
