Ghost Love

By Omar Anees

Something god-like of you,
In the growing distance and in your
Annihilating absence.
(I sense some unspeakable wrongness
When I think of you)

My thoughts have shapes;
Bitterness is a triangle, joy is a square and circle is for grief.
But my thoughts of you are shapeless like desire.
(I sense some unspeakable wrongness
When I think of you)

A glimpse of you will have my pupils
Spreading in and out.
They will sway like a box jellyfish.
(I fear my heart is a Trojan horse
And I am anticipating tragedy)

You are random things now;
A half-remembered dream, a stranger’s smile
And a stream flowing.
(I fear my heart is a Trojan horse
And I am anticipating tragedy)

Perhaps, perhaps,
Mine was a ghost love.
Invisible, fictional and hazy.
Like a ghost.
