City's Heart

By Nadeera Taneja

In the city’s heart, where shadows dwell,
Silent tales, stark and bold,
Alleyways in the dark, moonlight fades,
Aspirations chilled by the cold.

Footsteps echo, mournful refrain,
Through streets of apathy alone,
Hope’s ember burns, bright in the night,
Guiding lost souls to a home.

But alas the hapless cry of man,
Even an infant’s face engraved with woe,
They paint their smiles, and sell themselves,
While further digging and digging their wells of sorrow.

In the streets ablaze with fervent cries,
Their hopes flame flicker’s “please don’t fade!”
They change their direction from the road to the end,
A beacon of resilience in the shade.

For in the clash of ideals the truth shall rise,
Like a Phoenix from the ashes bold and bright,
With every step forward their lives they change,
The power of unity in the darkest night.

Compassion our cry, empathy our guide,
To heal, to mend, to restore the light,
Once a fantasia, now a life,
In the city’s heart we won this fight.

Amidst the chaotic calm, a call for change,
Voice rising, demanding rights,
Together we stand for a brighter tomorrow,
In solidarity’s embrace we unite.
