BY MEERA NAIR
I am the daughter of the giants that bore these forests,
An offspring of the vile, valiant beasts
You'll find me in a draft from the mangrove,
Or in the crevices of a shepherd's flute,
Where I dance to a fleeting summer’s yield
Unfettered, unshackled, and free
And I am your brother's widow,
An aberration
You'll find me in a forgotten shrine,
Where I weep for the goddesses they slew
And in the pauses of a witch's refrain,
Unyielding, unabashed, and true
