A Caged Bird

By Sheetal Sanghvi

A caged bird she is ever since her birth,
God gave her a voice but man took it away from her.
The super human being gave her a mind,
But man never let her express her opinion.
He gave her eyes but only to see what man wanted her to see.
The creator gave her a mouth, but even after being ill treated by her male counterpart on him she could not shout.

The divine power gave her a heart but only so that she can feel pain and hurt from the start.
God gave her wings but only to fly from one particular branch to another particular branch, never allowed exploring the remaining. She is eluded thinking that she can fly from one familiar branch to another unfamiliar one knowing little of what adventure lay in store for her.

With stars in her eyes she makes her journey in a palanquin.
Dreams she has young and bright but never to be realised.
Always pressurised by man to give him a son.
She is there for him only for procreation but his recreation time he spends with another woman.

This is not what God wanted of her.
This is not what she bargained for.
This is not why God made her.
He wanted her to be equal to man.
Then why does man dominate woman?
Why should she suffer?
It's time to set her free,
It's time for her to fly high in the sky.
