Anvesha Dixit – Delhi Poetry Slam

Anvesha Dixit

Anvesha Dixit is a 14-year-old poet with ink-stained fingers and a heart full of stories. For her, poetry is a quiet yet powerful way to express emotions and ideas. She believes that words hold a special kind of magic, one that can help make sense of a world that often feels loud, complicated, and beautiful all at once.

Her poems are raw and honest, often scribbled into the margins of school notebooks in the stillness of the night. Through her writing, Anvesha explores themes of identity, love, fear, hope, and rebellion. She writes not for applause but because some emotions insist on being heard. Poetry, to her, is a refuge, a quiet sanctuary where thoughts find clarity and feelings find voice.

Anvesha hopes to ignite a spark in other young poets, encouraging them to share their own stories and truths. Inspired by Greek mythology and the works of poets such as Robert Frost, Mary Howitt, and her favorite, Sylvia Plath, she strives to use her words to spread both kindness and truth.

Her writing is more than ink on paper. It is a reflection of who she is and what she stands for.

Q: You have mentioned that you are inspired by Greek mythology, can you elaborate how it shapes your writing ?

Greek mythology isn’t just old gods being dramatic, it’s human nature at its rawest. I’m really drawn to the themes of war, tragedy, and the supernatural in those stories. They feel ancient and timeless. Like, take the myth of Icarus, he wasn’t just flying, he was chasing freedom and ambition, and it cost him everything. I also enjoy the way that Greek mythology combines beauty and violence. Whether it's the tragic love of Orpheus and Eurydice or the pure chaos of the Trojan War, there's always this poetic tension between glory and sorrow that I try to bring into my own poems.

Q: What themes do you most enjoy exploring in your work and what draws you to them?

I'm fixated on writing about love and war, because both of them expose us for who we are. I also push into themes of truth, fear, and the strange beauty of living in a chaotic world. Sometimes it's serious, like with social injustice. Other times it's just writing stories that get people to feel something, whether it's to cry, laugh, or question it all. I believe I write to say what can't be said. And I hope my readers feel understood, particularly when they're struggling with fear, with identity, or just struggling to survive in this crazy world.

Q: As a writer, what are your long term goals and dreams?

I'd like to write things that count. Not for fun alone (although I enjoy that too), but to actually start something. I'd like to use my words to bring about human rights, gender equality, anti-racism… all the things people still strangely avoid discussing. If someone reads what I've written and feels less alone, challenged, or simply seen, then that's a success. I want to shatter the taboos and write boldly about the issues, war, injustice, identity, without sacrificing the heart and poetry of narrative. Essentially, I want my stories to leave a trace in the minds of their readers.
