Suvarchala Jyothsna G
A daughter of modern times,
Competitively acquires career skills;
Logically explains her opinions;
Diligently earns millions;
She expects the freedom to dream.
A daughter-in-law of modern times,
Is still judged by her culinary skills;
Is still expected to fit in overnight;
Is still told that career isn’t her right;
She loses the freedom to dream.
This is the struggle of many Indian women;
They are no longer confined to the Kitchen;
They are capable enough to earn or make bread,
They are subjected to such obstacles while moving ahead.
They need freedom to dream.
This poem perfectly articulates the conflict between society expectations and personal aspirations. The line ‘She expects the freedom to dream’ is incredibly powerful."
