Oh, You Heart Breaking Failure

By Pragya Jain

Oh, you heart breaking failure, why did you find me?

You were like a walk on the thorn

You came into my life like a storm

You took away the last piece of me

My pride of having been a winner

You left me there standing with my jaw dropped, a loser

But I am a fighter, so I fought

I fought and lost again

Till you pinned me down on my knees

I still fought and lost again and again and again

Till you had me doubting myself

Till you took away my self-confidence

Till you left me lying there shattered in my pool of tears

I put the lights out and shunned everybody out

I still don’t know if that was out of embarrassment or was I just tired of trying

I shut the windows, drew the curtains, blocking every ray of sunlight

Lying on the floor defeated and broken I heard a voice

It was the voice of my novels talking to me, my diary calling out my name

I got up, opened my diary and it read “Tell me everything”

Tell me everything

I picked up my pen and I wrote

I wrote till me tears stopped

I wrote till I found my answers, till I recalled every bit of my life

Till I finally put everything behind me, till I finally slept with a smile.

That morning I rose a different person, stronger and wiser

And most of all a better human being

That day I opened a new diary only to write:

“Oh, you heart breaking failure, thank you for finding me.”

And a new chapter began.
