Dear Future Me

'Dear Future me,
I want you to know that am writing this
on my roof, sunbathing.
You might be travelling in an AC car
but I travel in an Auto where my hair
dance on the rhythm of the loo.
In the evening when you nap in your AC room,
I race with my friends to the famous Chuski Baba
who keeps my Kala Khatta ready
and at night when electricity takes off
dad swings the paper fan
that he joyously buys from Dilli Haat.
At night at our veranda
we would sit gazing at the moon
and enjoy the freshly sliced watermelons
and pray electricity doesn't go at night
but whenever it would,
we would spread the bedsheets on our roof
and enjoy the natural zephyr.
But dear future me
how would you know how pleasant it feels
when it unexpectedly rains after school,
how would you know
how protected I feel on mum's lap
with dad swinging the paper fan
because you're not enjoying the typical summer
our city is known for under the air conditioned spaces.
So dear future me,
I want you to know that am writing this
on my roof, sunbathing,
helping you to re-live actual summer.'
