Hookup Culture

By Ritika Rajput

I don't believe in hookups.
I don't believe in hookups, but the very moment I looked at you, I guess I had to break that barrier that made me so rigid about things in life.
You and I sitting across each other,
Just giving those playful gazes,
Made me aware of myself, of how much I want this.

How much I want to have something with you,
Even if it's a touch, a kiss or anything.
You and I sitting across each other,
playing cards, you losing, me winning (with a great margin).
Made me lose myself into you.

We sitting across each other,
and you having your third cigarette with the glass of whiskey,
made me love those intense eyes,
Though I hate cigarettes.
But I guess some people make you love the things you hate.

I really wanted to have something,
Though I knew I never was and never will be in hookups.
But for instance, I wanted to have a fling,
I guess with you.
We sitting across each other.
