Night and Demons

Umera Riyaz

The night time comes,
And I whisper to my demons “go to sleep”.
But they can’t help it either.
It’s their time to feast; on my fears and my insecurities.
They are shapeshifters and they mould themselves.
Their most favourite avatars are anxiousness, depressing thoughts and overthinking.
I can’t even breathe without hearing them giggle at my failures.
Some nights they win but some days I do.
I realised my demons get scared too.
They fear my happiness and laughter.
Some days that is my strength and some nights it’s my weakness.
But this whole idea of getting rid of demons is a fairy tale, not all can do that.
Your demon is yours only; you can’t get rid of it, you can only tame it.
