Summer Slam Camp 2017

In June, DelSlam brings to you its best programme of the year! 

Summer Slam Camp 2017 is a fun and engaging summer course for youth and teenagers. Through the course, participants get the opportunity to attend workshops, group feedback sessions, rehearsals and a finale spoken word poetry show where they perform their poetry in front of a live audience. Delhi Poetry Slam will support the participants in opening up about themselves, developing confidence and expressing their thoughts clearly through the medium of poetry.  

Course Fees: INR 10,000/- for Three Weeks

Beginners are encouraged to participate. The course is open to youth and teenagers.

Calendar & Venue

Summer Slam Camp 2017 will be held at Korean Cultural Centre, A-25 Lajpat Nagar IV. The nearest metro station is Moolchand Metro Station located on the Violet Line. 

Introductory Session: 10th June 2017

Students are introduced to the art of composing a poem through writing activities and exercises. In this session, they understand the basic structure of writing a poem, how to use a theme effectively and the rhythm and flow of a poem.  

Workshop: 11th June 2017

During this workshop, students share their self-composed poems with each other in a group feedback session. They provide constructive feedback in a safe and non-judgemental environment. Students improvise on their poetry writing skills based on the friendly support of the group. 

Workshop: 17th June 2017

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of performing a poem- how to use eye contact, body language and expressions to visually engage an audience. 

Workshop: 18th June 2017

Students attend rigorous training in learning to be clear, confident and expressive on stage. Through a series of performance activities, they let go of inhibitions and step out of their comfort zones. 

Poetry Slam: 25th June 2017

Students receive the opportunity to perform a spoken word poem in front of a live audience at Korean Cultural Centre. They proudly demonstrate their newly gained skills at Summer Slam Camp 2017 with their friends, family and DelSlam community. All students receive certification at the poetry slam for completing the course. 

Our Facilitators

Our facilitators are a combination of young talented poets who share the same perspective as the participating students as well as experienced professionals who can discover the best potential in you.

Somesh Thapliyal is a student of Plant Molecular Biology and a regular performer at poetry events across Delhi. He believes in tapping into the simplicity of words and complexity of emotions, and that slam poetry is a powerful tool for social change.
